How we “Get it Done”!
GET IT DONE!
For this project the one of the main objectives is to make creation of assets available to anyone who would like to take some time out of their busy schedules and contribute something. We realize that some will contribute much and some little, you are what you make yourself here for the project. Without many other long-winded sentences, the following is a list of softwares we use to Get it Done!
First the content creation:
·Blender
This is mainly a Blender 3D Project. We use Blender for 3D content creation, animation, compositing, texturing, rigging, and more. Blender 3D is an open source package that is not only versatile and capable, it is also cross platform and very easy to install. It runs out of a folder with NO install if you prefer in fact. Anyone with an even basic computer with a compatible OS can use it.
·Gimp
We use Gimp for much of our photo editing, texturing and other basic 2D imaging needs. Gimp is also cross platform and again, very easy to install!
·Inkscape
Inkscape is a great vector drawing utility!
But how do we all connect and collaborate our thoughts and data? Well that has proven a fun challenge! There are is a great number of web applications and services to be utilized for this purpose, here is what won our hearts for this project:
This is where it all started. From the Blender Knowledge Base to the new group “Project Falcon” created by Light BWK. We have MASSIVE amounts of conversation in the group. Most is on topic, but what would a project be without some light socializing 8-)?
·Google Docs
This is by far the best collaborative tool we found, especially the drawing!! There are easy to use tools, sharing is explicit and concise, and the draw plane has grid and snapping and other choice items to make real time drawing with 2-5 people rather easy and cohesive.
·Dropbox
For the time being this is our main way of sharing production data–mainly storyboards, rough set blocking and concept images at the time of this writing. The space is sufficient for now but we will likely out grow it when we start getting more assets [textured models, simulations etc]. We have looked into CX for an alternative.
·Wordpress
You are looking at it! This site is built with WordPress, it is simple, fairly easy to configure, and straight to the point when it comes to blogging. We also have another G-14 classified site for our artists to go and collaborate in a different manner than facebook. We have our own mini blog for updates that are not quite polished enough for public view
.
this is nice.
